Top Query per Page

For every page, the one search query that brought it the most clicks over the last 90 days — and whether the page's title actually uses that query. Titles are the biggest lever on whether searchers click, so a page whose title doesn't match what people search for it is usually the cheapest win on the site.

What it measures

  • Clicks (90 days) — the page's clicks from the queries Search Console names. Google hides rare queries for privacy, so this can be lower than the page's total clicks.
  • Top query — the query with the most clicks to the page (most impressions if tied).
  • Top query's share of clicks — how much of those clicks it brought. A high share means one query defines the page.
  • Title check — whether every meaningful word of the top query appears in the page's title (case ignored; small words like "the", "near", "how" ignored; a plural "s" tolerated). In title, Missing from title, or Not checked yet.

Checking titles

The site owner can press Check titles. MetricsTab then fetches the titles of the top 50 pages in this report, at most once a day, through our crawler — one page about every second, obeying your robots.txt. Pages it could not fetch, or hasn't fetched yet, show Not checked yet: the report never guesses a title. Titles change, so check again after you edit them.

What to do with it

  1. Start with high-click pages marked Missing from title: rewrite the title to lead with the top query in natural words.
  2. Measure it: log the change in the Change Log and use Test this change to run an SEO test on the rewrite.
  3. A page whose top query is unexpected may be ranking for something you didn't intend — decide whether to lean into it or retarget the page.

Caveats & limits

  • The word check is simple matching, not meaning: "cheap" and "affordable" don't match. Treat Missing from title as a prompt to look, not a verdict.
  • Uses the latest 90-day snapshot, not the date filter.
